Real Stories,
Real Experiences
Before joining WSO this year, I was nervous about starting at a new school, but it’s been the best decision I’ve made. I’ve tried new sports like cheerleading, gymnastics, volleyball, and badminton, and the outstanding facilities have helped my talent thrive.
I’m proud to represent WSO in rugby, netball, football, basketball, athletics, cross country, cheerleading, and swimming. Being part of the SWA tutor group has also boosted my confidence. We learn about mental, emotional, and physical aspects of sport, which gives me a deeper understanding and helps me grow as both an athlete and a team member.
Nahla Mensah,
Year 7 – Athletics and Aquatics
Nahla is a talented young athlete with a particular talent in 300m, 600m and High Jump events. I have coached Nahla since she was 4 years old, her progress has been a joy to watch. Infact this year she will compete in the Gothenburg World Youth Games as one of our youngest squad members. Go Nahla!
Lisa Campbell
Founder Ultimate Athletics
We have been so happy with how Nahla has been nurtured and encouraged since she joined WSO. She has been able to make friends and feel comfortable within the school.
The curriculum available gives so much opportunity for kids to try new activities. Her teachers have challenged her to develop a wide range of skills. She was thrilled to join the Cheer Squad which was a totally new activity for her, only made possible with the support of the amazing PE staff at WSO. Nahla thoroughly enjoys coming to school at WSO.

Year 7 Parents
I’m part of the Sports and Wellbeing Academy (SWA) at GEMS Wellington, which helps me develop my skills and join various school squads. I’ve been in the cheerleading squad for three years, netball for four, and I’m Vice Captain of rhythmic gymnastics, supporting younger athletes. Outside school, I train in gymnastics five days a week, 4–5 hours a day, and hold the Candidate Master of Sport title from Ukraine. My school supports me throughout my career, celebrating my competitions, tracking my progress, and encouraging my passion. Thank you, WSO, for being such an important part of my sporting life.

As parents, we are very grateful for our school’s endless support for our daughter. WSO has allowed her to feel comfortable and confident in her actions. Not only for our daughter, but the school provides so many different activities and enrichments to give kids opportunities to find themselves in the right place where they belong. Not only sports but arts and crafts, singing, dancing, acting and many more. Thank you the school for sharing these wonderful opportunities.

frequently asked
questions
What should students bring for their PE lessons?
Students are required to bring their full PE kit, a cap, a refillable water bottle, and ensure that no jewellery is worn during lessons. We also recommend that students apply sunscreen before coming to school, especially during outdoor activities.
What should I do if my child is unable to take part in a PE lesson?
Parents must inform their child’s PE teacher in advance if their child is unable to participate in a PE lesson. If a child misses more than one lesson, a certified medical note will be required.
Are students required to participate in all PE lessons?
Yes, if a student is injured, they can still be involved in lessons by supporting as a sports leader. We do, however, notice that many students try to avoid swimming. Please note that swimming is a vital life skill and a compulsory part of the national curriculum, so all students are expected to participate.
At what age do school squads begin, and what is the process for student trials?
Squads begin from Year 3. All trials take place during PE lessons, where students are observed. PE teachers then select students to attend a final trial. This process ensures that every child is given a fair opportunity, allowing us to assess each student individually and ensure that no one is overlooked.
What school sports clubs are offered? What is "Come & Play," and is there a fee to participate?
We offer a wide range of school sports clubs, covering every sport available in the DASSA programme. There is no cost to participate.
Students who are not selected for a squad are encouraged to take part in our "Come & Play" sessions. These sessions provide all students with the chance to stay active, develop their skills, and enjoy sport in a fun and inclusive environment—something we are extremely proud of as a school.
