GEMS Wellington Academy – Silicon Oasis (WSO), has become the first academy outside of the UK to receive the ‘Leadership Academy’ status from Sports Leaders UK showing our commitment to excellence.
We are the first international centre to receive such an accolade and next year WSO will be looking to be nominated for ‘Leadership Academy of the Year’!
“GEMS Leadership Academy is the preferred provider of Sports Leaders UK qualifications in the UAE. Taking place at WSO, we qualify between 650-750 students per year in these internationally recognised qualifications,” says GEMS Leadership Academy Centre Course Manager Michael Lowery.
“These qualifications include Sports Leadership for all age groups, Dance Leadership and Leadership in English, Maths and Science. WSO acts as the lead training hub for the UAE and also qualifies other staff to deliver this training in GEMS and Non-GEMS schools.”
Across the entire GEMS Leadership Academy, which compromises of 18 schools, the academy qualifies more than 2,000 young leaders per year.
It is estimated that between 8,000 and 10,000 leaders will qualify per year from the 40 sites combined worldwide, making WSO the largest international centre for student leadership in the world.
The programme strives to provide young people with the qualifications and skills that help them in education and employment. Motivation, self-esteem, communication, team work and confidence are amongst the tools developed across a wide range of subjects.
Sports Leaders UK CEO Richard Norman, says the partnership with GEMS marks a further step in the programmes ambition to help as many young people as possible reach their potential.
