Welcome to the Secondary Curriculum
In the Secondary Phase, we follow the National Curriculum for England in Key Stage 3, providing engaging learning from a variety of subjects for students in Years 7 and 8, and then into our GCSE Options programme, which spans Years 9 to 11. The National Curriculum for England is based on a structured and broad framework that outlines expected achievement for the duration of a student’s education. The curriculum also provides a regular programme of student assessment and evaluation to ensure that students are working towards levels of attainment appropriate to their age and capability. Furthermore, our curriculum gives students the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom, including Sport, Performing Arts and Innovation-related activities.
In Years 9, 10 and 11 students follow the GCSE and IGSCE qualification. In Year 9, students develop the skills required to tackle the GCSE subjects they have opted for, whilst continuing to study the core subjects. Students study examination content through Years 10 and 11, taking their GCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. Our higher education offers a variety of pathways to suit the many different aspirations of our students. At Post-16, students have a choice of the International Baccalaureate where we offer the Diploma and Career Related Programmes. Further to this, we offer A-Levels and the BTEC qualification, with the option to combine. We truly feel that by offering this wide variety of choices, we promote inclusivity and allow all our students the chance to fulfil their potential.
Alongside our curriculum, we have moved to using key character traits to help promote personal and social skills, which we believe paves the way for becoming ‘World Class, World Ready’. These key character traits follow the GEMS Jewels of Kindness and Respect Programme. Our blended curriculum design aims to inspire and excite students about learning and provides real-life learning experiences. GEMS Wellington Academy Silicon Oasis provides an innovative, inclusive and creative learning environment that encourages challenge, curiosity, choice and independence.
